Motown arrived on the scene in the 1960s and was a new genre of music that was an immediate success. This new sound combined incredible voices, lyrics and rhythms that were exclusive to the music industry of the time. Most of the Motown artists were playing the already popular soul music, and the Temptations were among those who made this sound famous. To improve this sound, Motown studios often use two drummers instead of one and up to four guitarists. The last icing on the cake was a bit of a trap in the studio with emphasis on the treble range for a clear sound on AM radio.
